If You Were... A Song

If you were a song, what kind of song would you be?
Would you be a Jackson tune making the world go hee-hee?
Would you unbreak my heart and restore my universe,
A song so cool we don't need to rehearse
Or a lullaby keeping the wolf from the door?
Would I be a happy shoe when I go hit that floor?

What kind of song would you be:
Would you be romantic or bluish like me?
Would you be soft and tender like a day in spring?
Would you be a song I could easily sing
With a rock and a roll and a hip and a hop?
Would I still love you if they played you non-stop?
Do you require a band or settle for a guitar?
Would you be instantly recognized from afar?
Are you the type of stuff from which lessons are drawn?
Will you be remembered when all the stars are dead and gone
Like one for the money, two for the show
Or would you come and go like snow?
Hey, would you make me reassess my worth and unburden my shame?
Would there be a limit to your lyrical fame?
Would you encourage change when hope seems but the child of fiction?
Would your sound inspire a new addiction?
What would be your name?
Would I be able... to get you for free?
Tell me, what kind of song would you be?

  1. I would be a Weird Al-style parody. Parodying something with a lot of catchy synth. Probably Lady Gaga.

True story - I once gave a presentation in a seminar where I sang about the use of astrology in an ancient Gnostic text to the tune of Bad Romance.

  3. A song heard afar raucous and loud
With a band certainly and lots of shouts
It’s a group effort extended in unison
A song and dance to maintain balance
That’ll be nice and with lots of variety
There’ll be check and balance for sanity

  4. Now Blue. This is not a very fair question. I can't define myself with just one song, or even one type of song. Music is something that I have been surrounded by throughout my entire life. My dad, singing and playing the guitar, me, performing and learning to play my own favorites, listening to all kinds of music, and learning which ones I really love, and the ones I really don't like at all.

My personality is something eclectic--and as I am a woman, it can change from day to day. I can be a catchy pop song--the kind you hate yourself for listening to and enjoying, but you just can't help yourself. I can be one of those country songs that seem silly the first time you listen to it, and then later on you see the deeper side of it and it can make you cry. I can be a lullaby, calming fears and bringing comfort. I can also be a rock song, classic and timeless as well as a fleeting one hit wonder. I can even be a rap song, raw and unfiltered, but catchy and relatable. I can be a soothing ballad, made to inspire reflection and bring peace.

I am all of these songs, and probably more. No human can really be defined by a single song, or type of song. We are such a complex race. That's what makes us all so extraordinary. And so very exasperating. :)

    1. What do you mean this is not a fair question? I'm just asking: "What kind of song would you be?" How could that be unfair? Are you that complex, intricate and complicated? Yes? I see. I grew up listening to all kinds of music too and I like them all, but only one of them really defines me: rock n' roll. It's that simple. What do you mean I'm not complex, intricate and complicated? Yes, I like you too, but choose, choose, for I want to put you in a box and tick you. Just don't be a head banger song. That so gives a blue cowboy like moi a headache, and since I've been having this terrible toothache for, what, a week now, that would be more than I could handle. Unless you're a good head banger song. They do exist, or so my neighbor with the mowhawk. A mow-hawk is when you mow the lawn with a special haircut. Otherwise it's called a mohawk, which is just a type of bird.

As you're a woman, you can change from day to day. You said it, I knew it. Also, there's no such thing as a silly country song! I happen to be a very romantic country song when I'm not a rock n' roll song. Hello! My next song will be a country rap about rock n' roll.

Yes, I can be defined by a single song: Roll over Beethoven. There. ;)

      Delete
    2. Well, if you really need me to choose one type of song, I would say a Beatles song. Most days I'd say I'm "Let it Be," but many of their other songs could be a part of my personality too.

I am complex, for I am human. But I'm not as complex as my previous comment made me seem. In going back and re-reading it, I seem to have been listing all of my favorite music genres. I do love music, for it is awesome. All kinds, except death metal. I never really got into that stuff. It gives me headaches. Painful, painful headaches.

      Delete
    3. They give me terrible headaches too. Let it Be? Excellent choice. So tell me.... are you a gifted singer? I'm glad to hear you're complex. I wouldn't want it any other way. It's just that a was a bit worried you would decide you were a medley... ;)

      Delete
    4. Define "gifted." That's kind of a loaded word. I'm pretty good, but I don't know about "gifted."

      No, I'm not a medley...most days... :)

    5. Pleasant to the ear making you want to hear more... How's that for a definition? :)

      Delete
    6. Well, in that case...I'd say that's for others to decide. I'm too self-critical to make an unbiased judgment.

But he definitely needs to go to home where I feel he will be loved and safe. I was hoping for Professor Red Shoes to consider adopting him. And a WREG reporter. My best friend wanted him but she has too many cats and dogs to care for. But I will continue on with his care and living him. He is a character. Does not demand attention but is affectionate. 17. These last few month have taught me some lessons. Do not assume u know what a person is going thru unless u gave intimate knowledge of their situation. Love and be kind to everyone including people who do not love u back. Love something. Another person and pet. U will find joy when u open ur heart to loving something. A lot has happened. A lot. And a lot I could not talk about because of the trouble I would have gotten in for revealing. And I held on even thru hell I held on. And I have been blessed as of a week ago. My situation totally different. And I do not hate those whom harmed me but rather forgave and closed the door and went onto the next journey God has for me.

I was on sick leave indefinitely. Stress can kill u. I am a strong woman but this brought me to my knees.

I could have sued on two levels. One sexual. I choose to take the hide road. And forgive and I did nail that door shut the day I walked out and knew I was not going back. I loved my guys. I loved my work. But it was killing me what I was having to deal with--

People can't understand unless they walked in my shoes and only one other did. God left us together to lean on each other and then he got out us together within a short time period one after the other. She was first and then I was next. That was not happen chance. That was God's way of protecting us.

I done with it. I've gone on. Learned my lessons. Am more cautious. But still I believe in people. That's the one thing u can't ever give up on people. There are a few bad ones but mostly there are good ones.

  31. Things have been really really really good the last two weeks. I have been blessed.

One must forgive people for whatever they do because if u cannot come to terms with whatever someone did to u then ur life if ruined not theirs. As well as it can hinder u from having the joy and blessings God wants u to have. People have become "stuck" in the past and it has affected their present and future.

My pups are my joy. And everyday they teach me to "live and love in the moment".

R their hard times? Sometimes but deal with them and get off that road if u can.

When I look back at the hell that I went through for four years and the last three months especially, it was so that I and another could lean on each other till God got us both out of there. And there were learning lessons. And I left with respect and people's thoughts of me remain high and good. Christian. I behaved the way God would have wanted. As well, as I did not attempt to destroy anyone or their careers. I could have made some people's lives a living hell for the rest of their lives personal and career. However, it is best to be an example of forgiveness. My reward "the best possible situation" ever. And I mean the best!!!!

I don't know what song I'd be... I wanted to say, 'because I'm happy' but I'm sure that's going to be a fleeting hit, so I guess I'd be, 'Don't worry...be happy.' The whistling and beat in that one are catchy. :)

    1. Excellent choice. I hope you don't mind me saying I prefer Elvis's 1970 version of the song. Yes, you're back. I was wondering where you were.

  37. I would be "Song Sung Blue" by Neil Diamond because Neil is soooo uncool these days and no one listens to him anymore. And also if you listen to that song it will get stuck in your head for months.

    1. What do you mean "Neil is soooo uncool"? Is that what people think? Really? Really?? How rude! Song Sung Blue Grumpster is a hit!

How's life? Have you been running? ;)

  41. Hmm..what type of song would I be perhaps a sultry blues song..the kind that just rolls off the lips and it would be my own creation..a song where the melody plays in my head and the lyrics comes from deep inside my soul..my own voice in the night..beating to my own inner drum..thump..thump..thump..

Or maybe, I'd be a ballad..words from my heart..like a rose full of love and pain..

    1. If you were a song, I bet your lyrics would be soothing and thought-provoking, genuine and profound. And your tune would be mesmerizing. I would dance to it all night.

Pain breeds the best ballads... I would be an outtake... to be rediscovered when I'm long gone.

    2. What song would we be if we were a duet? Would we sing in harmony or would we alternate between verse and chorus..would we be like two rising suns or perhaps, two setting suns..would we be like the super moon making our heads swoon????

Ballads indeed come from the seed of pain for sorrow is something everyone can feel and relate to..just sayin'

Well let's hope you stay around for a long long time..and get discovered now instead of when you are gone..
